Okay, this is the story. My neice Samantha (the one we had in foster care when she was 5 and 12) had a baby at age 19. The state of Washington wouldn't let here keep the baby because of her past record so child protection took the baby from the hospital and put him in fostercare. She worked hard at getting the baby back and was granted a 2nd shelter care hearing a month later. She had a great lawyer and asked if I would come to Spokane to be with her during the hearing. After 3 hours of testimony, the judge decided she couldn't have the baby just yet because she was living with a scary boyfriend. So after court, I went to sit in the car while the lawyer told her she needed to break up with him and not live with the boyfriend if she wanted her baby back. While I was waiting in the car, Tate called to tell me that he had received Shalee and Dan's postcard (the thankgiving card asking about adopting a baby) in the mail that day. He read it to me and said, "Don't you think that is quite a coincidence?" On the way to driving Samantha home, I asked if she would consider giving her baby up for adoption and I told her about Dan and Shalee. By the time we got back to her apartment, she felt like she should look into it. I left to drive home but she called to tell me about an hour later that she had called her lawyer and Dan and Shalee, and she just knew it was the right thing to do while she still had parental rights. So,from Nov 21 they began working on the adoption and Dan and Shalee were able to go get baby Malachi on January 9th. Cool story, huh? Miracles. Talk about "good things".
